This Privacy Policy explains how StrokeInk ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit our website (strokeink.com), use the StrokeInk hardware device, the StrokeInk mobile application, or any related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: information you provide, information collected automatically, and information from connected devices.
a) Information you provide

c) From the StrokeInk device
When your device syncs to the app via Bluetooth, we receive: scores per hole, putts per hole, round duration, course identifier, tee played, firmware version, battery level, and device serial number.
3. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Process your subscription and hardware purchases
- Sync rounds between your StrokeInk device and the app
- Calculate handicap, statistics, and personalized insights
- Enable social features you opt into (posts, friends, leaderboards)
- Send important notices about your account, the Service, or order updates
- Respond to your support requests
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
We will only send marketing emails if you opt in. You can opt out at any time.
5. Cookies & tracking
The StrokeInk website uses a minimal set of cookies to remember your preferences and analyze general traffic patterns. We currently do not use third-party advertising cookies.
The StrokeInk app uses standard mobile analytics SDKs to measure performance and crashes. You can disable analytics through your device settings.
Where required by law, we will request your consent before placing non-essential cookies.
6. Data storage & security
Your data is stored on secure cloud servers operated by our hosting providers, primarily located in the United States. We use industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls, and regular backups.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the information we hold about you
- Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion: Delete your account and associated data
- Portability: Export your round data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to certain uses of your information
- Withdraw consent: Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time
- Lodge a complaint: File a complaint with your local data protection authority

California residents have specific rights under the CCPA. EU and UK residents have rights under the GDPR. We will honor those rights as required by law.
8. Data retention
We keep your information as long as your account is active and as long as needed to provide the Service. After you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period unless we are required by law to retain it (for example, transaction records for tax purposes).
Anonymized or aggregated data that no longer identifies you may be retained indefinitely.
9. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact hello@strokeink.com and we will delete it.
10. International users
StrokeInk is based in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for cross-border data transfers.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service. The updated policy takes effect when posted.
